At half the size of the original, THE400 Mini brings the iconic wedge-shaped design of the Atari 400 into modern living rooms with HDMI output, five USB ports, and the ability to play 25 included classic Atari games or load the games you already own from a USB stick. The emulation is the broadest in any Atari mini console — THE400 Mini emulates the full 8-bit Atari range: the original Atari 400, the more powerful Atari 800, the XL series (800XL, 65XE), the XE series, and the Atari 5200 home console. All the hardware generations of the 8-bit Atari ecosystem are emulated in a single device, meaning games from across the entire era of Atari 8-bit software are playable.
The 25 built-in classic games cover the best of the Atari software library across genres: Airball, Asteroids, Basketball, BattleZone, Berzerk, Boulder Dash, Bristles, Capture the Flag, Centipede, Crystal Castles, Elektraglide, Encounter, Flip and Flop, Henry's House, Hover Bovver, Lee, Millipede, Miner 2049er, Missile Command, M.U.L.E., O'Riley's Mine, Seven Cities of Gold, Star Raiders II, Wavy Navy, and Yoomp! — a selection of Atari's most celebrated titles alongside deeper catalogue games that defined the platform's personality. All are accessible via a simple carousel menu that requires no configuration.
THE400 Mini connects to any modern TV via HDMI at 720p resolution in 50Hz or 60Hz, compatible with PAL and NTSC television systems worldwide. Five USB ports support simultaneous connection of additional joysticks, gamepads, a keyboard, and a USB stick for loading your own game collection. Four save-game slots per game allow progress to be saved and resumed at any time — the essential modern convenience that makes the most punishingly difficult 8-bit classics completable. The 30-second rewind function lets players wind back gameplay at any moment to try a section again without loading from a save — the quality-of-life feature that makes THE400 Mini genuinely playable rather than just displayable. Twelve display frames surround the gameplay image on modern widescreen TVs with period-appropriate visual borders.
