The 6-colour dye-based ink system — Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Light Cyan, and Light Magenta — is the ink configuration that separates photo printers from document printers. Standard 4-colour printers (CMYK) cannot reproduce smooth skin tones, subtle colour gradients, or the tonal depth of photographic images at print quality. The addition of Light Cyan and Light Magenta creates a wider and smoother colour gamut, reducing the visible dithering in gradients and shadows that 4-colour printing produces. At 5760×1440 dpi maximum resolution, the L18050 delivers the sharpness and detail that studio-quality prints require.
The EcoTank ink tank system applies the same refillable, ultra-low running cost model to photo printing. Each set of 70ml ink bottles prints up to 2,100 borderless 4R (10×15cm) photos before requiring a refill — significantly more output than any cartridge photo printer before a costly cartridge replacement. The key-lock, drip-free refilling nozzles accept only the correct bottle in the correct orientation, ensuring mess-free refilling. The front-facing transparent ink windows let you monitor ink levels at a glance.
A3+ borderless printing is the capability that makes the L18050 a studio printer rather than just a home photo printer. A3+ (329×483mm) is larger than A3 (297×420mm) — the size for exhibition-quality photo prints, architectural design proofs, large-format marketing materials, and printing at poster scale from home. The L18050 prints borderless at any supported paper size from 4R to A3+, including custom-length roll media up to 1200mm. Print speed is approximately 27 seconds for a 4R photo and 65 seconds for an A4 photo — a full studio session of 4R prints can be completed in under an hour.
CD, DVD, PVC ID card, and plastic card direct printing make the L18050 significantly more versatile than a single-purpose photo printer. Print directly onto printable CDs and DVDs for branded event media and professional music or video releases. Print directly onto PVC ID cards and name cards for in-house ID production without sending to a print shop. PVC ID cards, 54×86mm, are supported natively.
