Resynced is a complete reconstruction of Black Flag as a modern game, with every system rebuilt — visuals, physics, water, combat, and world fidelity — plus exclusive new story content that expands the original narrative with characters the 2013 version could never include.
Edward Kenway's story — the Welsh privateer turned pirate who commands the Jackdaw across the Caribbean — remains the central narrative, and Darby McDevitt, writer of the original Black Flag, returns as lead writer, ensuring continuity between the 2013 story and the new content Resynced adds around it.
The Resynced-exclusive additions are substantial. Blackbeard — Edward Teach, the most feared pirate of the golden age — receives an expanded new narrative thread. Stede Bonnet, the Gentleman Pirate, joins with dedicated new story content. Three new officer characters integrate into the main narrative as unexpected allies. New sea shanties add to the original's already beloved collection. Pets, photo mode, and further surprises complete the new content layer.
The rebuilt Anvil engine delivers true current-generation visuals. Ray-Traced Global Illumination runs across all graphics modes — light that bounces realistically between surfaces, making Caribbean sunlight, tavern torchlight, and underwater diving sequences behave as physical light. Ray-traced reflections are available in Balanced and Fidelity modes. The water system is completely rebuilt with physically based rendering, volumetric foam generation, and dynamic bubble systems that make the sea respond to wind, weather, and ship movement as real ocean. DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers bring physical texture to every action — the tension of a flintlock, cannon recoil, rope tension. PSSR 2.0 ships day one.
