6 New Hobbies to Kick off 2021!

Posted by Deema Sifri - January, 04

      It is a New Year!

I am going to be straight with you. I thought this New Year, we were allowed a pass to not have any New Year’s resolutions given the state of how the past year went. My friends and family thought otherwise. They would not accept “To finally catch up on The Mandalorian on Disney Plus” as an acceptable resolution (I did by the way, epic). So, after much deliberation, I got behind the keyboard to share with you my 6 new hobbies to kick-off 2021!

      1. Journaling, notebooks, and new year resolutions.

One of my first cheat codes with getting 1 resolution done is to get a brand-new journal, to document how you are getting on. Plus opening a fresh journal gives me a sense of a refreshing and rejuvenation to my life. My favourite is the Moleskine - Classic Ruled Paper Notebook - Hard Cover and Elastic Closure Journal to write out my to-do lists, goals and new year resolutions.

      2. Photography.

If you want to level up from using your smartphone for photography, maybe it’s time to upgrade that skill and get into point-and-shoot cameras, like the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II - 20.1 MP, Point & Shoot Camera, for sharp and crisp photos. Or if you prefer a Nikon camera, check out the Nikon P1000 16MP 125 x Optical Zoom Point and Shoot Camera for its insane zoom. You can view the moon clearly through just the basic telescope-like zoom.

I also make sure to keep my camera protected in my National Geographic NG RF 5350 Rainforest rucksack because it has the perfect interior to fit my camera, lenses and other accessories when I am on the go.  Check out the remarkable collection of these useful National Geographic camera bags to fit your style and needs.

      3. Reading more.

I love reading, but I keep messing up my reading goals whenever I start. I was originally of the physical book clan, and I even celebrated when I found out that physical books still outsell eBooks till today. However, I must admit defeat when it comes to keeping track of my reading goals. The Amazon - All-New Kindle Paperwhite E-Reader and the All- Newkindle Oasis E-Reader constantly remind me to read, or whether my reading streak is at risk (and I CANNOT let anyone beat my current run). My kindle is one of my favorite devices, and it is filled with books from the best library… my own.

      4. Gaming.

This might be a weird one, but I want to get into gaming MORE. I like using my Nintendo Switch Lite as I am nostalgic. It’s lightweight and compact, which means it’s easily storable and reachable. And you can play a wide selection of Nintendo games, but my favorite is Minecraft (Intl Version). The adventures are fun, exciting and a good way for me to escape day to day stresses. All that being said… I think I need to move to the next level with the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X.

      5. Baking.

I too have got bit by The Great British Bake Off, and now want to be the best baker there is. I find baking to be fun, magical, and therapeutic.  It is also a nice activity to do with others. I suggest inviting a couple of friends and family and have a Great UAE Bake Off.  I promise you it will be fun. My go-to baking treats to make are cakes, pies, and cookies. I’ve shared my favorite red velvet cake recipe which, I make with my Dessini Granite Coating Cake Pan:

3 cups (360g) cake flour (spoon & leveled)
      1 teaspoon baking soda
2 Tablespoons (10g) unsweetened natural cocoa powder
      1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
      2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
1 cup (240ml) canola or vegetable oil
4 large eggs, room temperature and separated
      1 Tablespoon pure vanilla extract
      1 teaspoon distilled white vinegar
liquid or gel red food coloring
1 cup (240ml) buttermilk, at room temperature

The non-stick interior makes it so easy to release the cake, highly recommended!

      6. Fitness.

The Dubai Fitness Challenge has really changed me from an amateur who goes once or twice to the gym in a week (… or month) to someone who now makes it a habit to work out and I did not let it stop me till the end of last year. So, my final resolution is to keep this going. My top choice is to exercise at home (pandemic or not) and if you are the same, how about checking out the Portable Home Door Door Gym Bar? I like that I can quickly and easily assemble and disassemble it.  As well as my love/hate relationship with Dumbbell Hand Weight Set With Carry Case - Starter Vinyl Dipping Dumbbells Set is also another set of equipment that is convenient, easy to store and perfect for beginners.

While you are working out, you need to download Fitze on your phone. It literally rewards you for working out and does not cost you a thing! Getting an Apple Watch or Fitbit will always get you more accurate results, but it works also with just your phone’s health monitoring.  I am always looking for different ways to motivate and push me to move my body daily and Fitze helps tremendously. For more fun ideas about health and fitness, I have talked about it in one of my previous blog

And if you're still not over the weather shift, these winter activities are definitely worth trying this season! Wishing everyone a happy and prosperous 2021!

How about you? What hobby will you be taking on this new year?
